Ephesians 1:7-14
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, 12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.
In Him– This is Christ Paul is moving from the father, to the
Redemption– freedom from slavery
His blood– This was the price for our freedom (Acts 20:28)
forgiveness of sins- The direct result of redemption
riches of His grace- How great is His Grace? He saved us through His blood, the death of this only son, his grace truly knows no bound.
abound toward- All that grace, he poured out on you and me
all wisdom and prudence– 2 different things, wisdom- making the plan of redemption, prudence- making all the arrangements to make it possible. This was a well thought out plan that was though out and carried out.
made known– his redemption and forgiveness was applied to us by our hearing and accepting his free gift.
mystery of His will-Gods redemption through Jesus, was hidden until Jesus, and now it is made known to all
His good pleasure- He was not forced to do this, he wanted to do this
purposed in Himself- That is purposed in God
dispensation of the fullness of the times– A arrangement or administration
gather together in one all things in Christ- This would be the millennial kingdom in love
in heaven– Spiritual world
on earth– Physical world
in Him– In Christ
In Him– In Christ
obtained an inheritance– A better translation would be in him we were also made his inheritance. (deut 4:20) As His inheritance, he will guard, protect, care for, improve, and enjoy. Before Jesus, Israel was the inheritance, but now Christ has the Church.
predestined- This is not by chance
purpose of Him– Gods plan from the beginning
works all things- Everything that happens
counsel of His will- his ultimate plan
that we- Believers (some say Jewish believers)
first trusted- (The early Church) (The Jewish Believers) (The Church age)
to the praise of His glory- we as believers as and inheritance bring praise to God
Jesus was given to the world as a gift of Love…The believers is given to Jesus as a gift of Love
WE are blessed because God choose to adopt us and bless us This is possible because Jesus redeemed us
This means our inheritance is Christ and we are Christ’s! Why? Because God is love!
Eph 1:13-14
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
13 In Him that is Christ
Trusted- The gentiles also trusted
after you hear The gospel
having believed It is not enough to hear and understand
were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise A free gift, given at salvation, that works in us, this is what was promised in the OT Isa 32:15
guarantee of our inheritance The HS is a glimpse of what is to come, and shows us that there is more to come!
Until We are not there yet, our inheritance is a future blessing
redemption of the purchased possession 2 stages, death and the end of the world
praise of His glory. The sealing is bringing Glory to God
In the blessing we had no part
In the redemption we had no part
In the sealing we had no part
It was all God to Bring him Glory!
How crazy is it that I bring him Glory
How
I willing follow him
I willingly share his love
