Rom 7:1-6

7 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? ² For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. ³ So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. 

not know… law – This is referring to the Law of Moses, Paul is talking to Gentiles and Jews and the all would have been familiar with the Law of Moses

dominion-Master of

VS 2-3 is the rules for marriage, this is not establishing a doctrine of marriage for the new testament, this is talking about marriage under the Law.  Notice only death releases one from the contract.  The husband is dead, she is free, the one that had master of her is no more.  (point of order a husband is not a master over his wife)  THIS IS AN ILLUSTRATON  Death frees us from all aspects of the law

⁴ Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. ⁵ For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. ⁶ But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Therefore- Whats the therefor therefor!  Understanding this illustration we can apply it to our lives with Christ.

dead to the law through the body of Christ- We are crucified with christ, that means we are free from the law. 

married to another- From the master of sin to the master of Grace

that we-There is a purpose for our freedom is not just to be free

members to bear fruit to death-Rom 6:23

newness of the Spirit- we are no longer slaves ,we have a choice and our choice matters.  We serve God by following the HS.  The Law led to sin, but the HS leads to life.  We no longer follow the Law, we are dead to the law.
