25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Therefore- Because of these three reasons
gave them up –God gave them over, in three stages
to uncleanness- Stage 1. Sexual sin
lusts of their hearts- No limit to their sexual sin
dishonor their bodies among themselves– No limit with who or how
exchanged-giving one for the other
truth of God for the lie- The reason and beauty of sex in marriage. Man and his role in the world, we are created for a relationship with God. The Lie, we are the center, it is all about us and what we want.
worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator,- The lost all sight of God. Gave preverance to what we want and no thought or anything else.
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
For this reason- the trading the truth for a lie
vile passions- Disgraceful desires
exchanged- This is the second time this term has been used, 1st in vs 25, trading the truth of God for a lie, putting aside the good for the bad.
Women/Men- The word usage here is in sexual terms, not heterosexual and Homosexual, but xx xy
Against nature-The exchanging the truth of God, exchanging sex leads to unnatural actions.
penalty of their error which was due-Gods righteous judgement
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
not like to retain God in their knowledge– They abandoned God fully
God gave them over- God does not want robots to serve him, we choose to serve him, that also means he allows humans to reject him, and he will do all he can to bring us to him, but when we say no, he will listen
not fitting- Shameful
who, knowing the righteous judgment of God- Our conscience Rom 2:14-15
deserving of death- Righteous judgement
not only-Some might fall to temptation in the heat of the moment, but these take it a step further, they are not just weak, they promote
